Archives: Last Years Objective

  • Recycle Rush is this year’s First Robotics competition. It is a game that involves picking up and stacking recyclable totes and bins and recycling “litter” or placing it in a landfill zone.

  • All of the items used are made from recycled materials and can be reused by teams or recycled by First at the end of the season.

  • The game begins with a 15-second autonomous period in which robots work to move and to earn points without being driven or controlled by team members. Team 4098 has competed in this period each year, which is a major programing accomplishment in itself.

  • The match then moves to a Teleop Period that lasts for two minutes and 15 seconds. During this period, three teams will occupy two sides, red and blue, and work to stack totes and even throw pool noodles onto the other side’s field to add points to the end of each match.

  • This year is set to be an amazing year because rule changes have been put in place, such as the introduction of robots of any width that can reach up to a height of 6 ft. 6 in. Bumpers are also no longer required on the robots during matches. Scores, as well, have changed and are no longer determined after each match but are going to be averaged at the end of all matches.

  • As with all First competitions, “Coopertition” is a very important aspect of all interactions. All teams and coaches are encouraged to interact and reach out to other teams to form alliances and friendships. If help is needed, First works to make sure that it is provided and that students are learning and growing in a safe and fun environment. In this year’s game, “coopertition” is being encouraged by the prospect of earning up to 40 points when blue and red alliances join together to stack totes on a step that divides the teams.

  • With this new game and the new changes put into place, and the continuing spirit and enthusiasm of all First members, there are no doubts that this year will be even better than prior years.
